A recycling rate that exceeds 95%

The innovative technology used by Recyclage ÉcoSolutions not only permits the recycling of over 95% of the physical components of refrigerators and freezers, but it is also able to remove all the ozone depleting substances (ODS), more particularly the chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and the hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) which contribute massively to climate warming.

Regarding the efficiency of the procedure and the implemented methods, the centre’s recycling rate of 95% for the appliances treated speaks for itself. In terms of materials that have been saved from landfill, the following table clearly shows the 34 124 tonnes of recycled materials since the centre opened on December 31, 2011 (data obtained from the scales that are integrated into the procedures and sales contracts signed with the recoverers):

MATERIALS QUANTITIES
RECYCLED
Steel 22 097 tonnes
Non-ferrous metal
(copper and aluminum)
510 tonnes
Compressors 4 054 tonnes
Various plastics 2 927 tonnes
Polyurethane powder 476 tonnes
Oil 82 tonnes
Other materials 3 977 tonnes
Total 34 124 tonnes

And then there is the impressive quantities of captured CFC and HCFC. In fact, Recyclage ÉcoSolutions recovers, in a single year of operation, more than 40 tonnes of ODS and in the process eliminates the equivalent of some 240 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide de dioxide (CO2). When we know that a single tonne of CFC equals 4,750 to 10,900 tonnes of C02 in terms of global warming potential, this is what we call keeping the planet cooler…
