A recycling centre which exceeds the CFC and HCFC recovery standards
In operation for only one year, the treatment centre set up by Recyclage ÉcoSolutions already boasts impressive results. For one thing, it is the ONLY such facility in North America to remove the CFC and HCFC present in the polyurethane foam which insulates refrigerator appliances, an action that is not even required in federal regulations, which only extends to cover CFC and HCFC present in the cooling liquids. We know that insulation foam contains 2 to 3 times more CFC than refrigeration liquid, so this unique initiative is, to say the least, meritorious. In this sense, Recyclage ÉcoSolutions has positioned itself as an exceptional technological window in Canada, which also opens vast markets for its services.
Hydro Quebec raises its objectives for the Recyc-Frigo program
With its 85,000 or so refrigerators and freezers recycled in its first year of operation and an annual capacity to treat some 175,000 appliances when operating at full volume, the performance of the Recyclage ÉcoSolutions treatment centre recently incited Hydro Quebec to revisit upwards its Recyc-Frigo recovery program. Now, Hydro Quebec has raised the bar to 300,000 appliances from its original target of 230,000 by 2010, a clear indication of the work carried out to date by Recyclage ÉcoSolutions.
This efficiency vaulted Hydro Quebec into the role of finalist for the prestigious 2009 Quebec company/citizen prize in the environment category for its Recyc-Frigo program.
